1950 Packard Series 2301

Packard Series 2301 (1950)
for sale

Price: US $6,500.00

Description:

I have owned this 1950 Packard Eight Deluxe for 17 years, buying it shortly after I retired as the automotive columnist at The New York Times.
I acquired it from an elderly lawyer who received it as payment for probating the original owner’s estate. At the time, it had very few miles on the odometer, and it still has traveled only 28, 589 miles!
The original paint needed a re-do, and I had the car professionally painted in 2000. Since then, it has always been covered and garaged, and the spectacular blue paint (a near match for an original factory hue) is still perfect!
The undercarriage also was sandblasted and painted, and the gas tank was cleaned and sealed at the same time. The chrome and stainless also were redone and the trim glistens as it should. Coker wide whites grace the wheels.
Maintenance (brakes, exhaust, etc.) has been performed as needed. The Packard’s 288-cubic-inch straight eight starts right up and hums a pretty tune. The transmission is manual, with a three-on-the-tree chrome shifter.
I have offered a bunch of pictures, and they include the original bill of sale, which shows that the Golden Anniversary sedan had just two options, a heater and seat covers. The covers are now gone, but through the years they kept the original mohair upholstery in pristine condition.
I bought a radio for the car and installed it several years ago, but I never got around to mounting an antenna, so that still needs doing. Also, the driver's door panel has a cloth patch, applied by the previous owner. It is harmless but I thought I would mention it.
The gauges and controls all work, although the clock does not. And while we’re talking about it, the dash is a masterpiece of wood-graining on steel, handcrafted at the factory in Detroit.
You are welcome to see this 65-year-old survivor here in Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains, just off Interstate 80. Also, the car is advertised on the Packard Club’s website. If it sells there, we reserve the right to cancel this ad.
The winning bidder will be required to send a $500 nonrefundable deposit via PayPal within 48 hours of the end of the auction. The balance must be paid by cash or a certified Cashier’s Check before the title is transferred.
