1921 New Mexico Porcelain License Plate MATCHING TAB Rare
“F+”
This plate is all original with no restoration of any kind. Please see the close-up photo for detail.Only new registrants received matching tabs in 1921. Those who had been issued a plate in 1920 received a year tab too, but the number on that tab did not match the plate.New Mexico porcelain license plates were issued as singles only, (not pairs), and this has made them somewhat scarce. They were made of thin gauge steel covered with a fragile, poor quality porcelain enamel surface. The state"s roads were mostly unpaved at the time, and as these plates bounced around, they were susceptible to chipping, crazing and bends. Most plates which have survived to this day look pretty much like this one, however the original matching tab makes this old license plate something rare and special.
