Description:

Up for your consideration is my '71 Plymouth Duster. I bought this car a few years ago as an original, rust free unmolested paint/interior car. The car was built in December of 1970 and sold to Mr. Willard Griffin on January 2, 1971 in Alexandria, VA from Colonial Chrysler-Plymouth. Willard moved to the small town of Six Mile, SC, where he sold the car to Tony, years later. Tony removed the original 225 cubic inch slant six and transformed the entire underside, from the radiator to the rear axle, to a car that could hold its own against any big block car on the street. Mind you, Tony has forgotten more than most of us will ever know about all things Mopar. The block he chose to use for the engine build was a '71 360 from a virgin Plymouth Fury, because of its thick block wall design (Yes, you could get a 360 in 1971 in a C-Body!). The block was bored .030 over, balanced, line honed and decked. The block was then filled with ARP rod bolts (beam polished), Hughes flat tappet cam, Crane Cams Gold race roller rocker arms, dual roller timing chain, Keith Black pistons (10:1), gasket matched heads, etc. The motor was topped off with Edelbrock aluminum heads and intake manifold. A Holley double pumper breaths it in and Hooker headers exhales it out. The build was five years ago at a cost of nearly $8, 000.
To better handle the road, the front suspension and brakes were replaced with '73 Duster front end components, including the front disc brakes. A thick Hellwig front sway bar replaced the thinner Mopar example, along with new polyurethane bushings. A Road Runner drive shaft and thicker torsion bars were also added. An Addco sway bar performance kit was added to help support the rear end. Eleven inch Road Runner heavy duty drums were added to the rear. The rear axle is a 3:55 Sure Grip. The mufflers are two chamber Flowmasters and Road Runner stainless tips. I like the oval tips, compared to the more squared off A-body tips. I added a new bumper from Tri-City Plating. The front bumper is original and nice, driver quality.
The car has never been wrecked. The only thing that needed to be addressed prior to painting was the few door dings acquired through the decades. The paint is PPG (four coats of paint, four coats of clear). It was sanded and buffed/polished. The paint job is very nice driver quality. The vinyl top has been replaced. I added the Mopar steel wheels and had them powder coated to match the paint. The caps came from one of the coolest muscle car salvage yards I've ever had the honor of traipsing through. The wheels are 15x7's. The tires are newer BFG's. The spare in the trunk is original to the car and has never been on the ground! I added a new trunk mat, as the original was falling apart.
To sum things up, this car is a very nice rust-free driver. It is an absolute blast to drive. It runs and sounds like a built big block. My wife and I have been on several long cruises with it. We just finished a 200 mile round trip last weekend. I have original paperwork on the car, including three immaculate build sheets, owner's manual, warranty card and window sticker. The next owner of this cool Mopar will not be disappointed. The horn needs to be fixed. Everything else works as it should. If you want the seam on the passenger side repaired, Legendary Interiors will sell the light green insert for $45. A half-way talented upholstry person can remove the seat cover and sew the new insert in. I've checked, and it can be done for under $175, total. The seat covers, front and back are original. Let the pictures speak for themselves, and please call or email if you'd like additional pictures. I included a picture of the car when I purchased it, wearing it's original paint and Magnum 500's.
I reserve the right to end this auction anytime, as the car is listed locally. Please don't bid if you are not serious. Again, call with any questions at (706) 836-4410. Thanks
