Plymouth GTX GTX (1969)
for sale
Price: US $7,100.00
Price: US $7,100.00
Up for auction, without a reserve, is a 1969 Plymouth GTX
project car, mostly a survivor. This car
is a factory original GTX, and comes with a 440 cubic inch engine, 727
automatic transmission, and now has a 4.11 Dana 60 rear end that was added at a
later date in the 70’s, along with the Road Runner lift off hood.
Some history on the car may be of help in understanding its
condition. I was able to track down the
previous two owners of this car and get a life history. The first owner purchased it at a Salt Lake
City dealership in 1970 as his daily driver and family car. He joking told me that he would race it at
the local dragstrip on Saturday night, and drive it work on Monday morning. He
said the car ran consistently in the mid 13’s and was a lot of fun. The first
owner added the 4.11 Dana 60 rear end, the factory Road Runner lift-off hood, a
six pack intake and carbs, and repainted it the emerald green. The first owner
drove the car till about 1982, and then sold it to the second owner. The second owner used the car primarily as a
street racer and eventually destroyed the original 440 motor in about
1984. He worked in a mechanic shop and
built another 440 that was a much higher horsepower motor than the
original. He said the car was unbeatable
in the surrounding counties. The second
440 motor lasted about two years until it “went bad”. He said he was racing a Corvette and
“something happened to the motor”. He
drove it home, checked the oil and found coolant in the oil, so he drove it
into the barn, where it sat for 30 years, until I purchased the car a few months
ago. He sold the six pack setup off the car and added the aluminum intake and a
big four barrel carb. We have done very
little to the car other than a thorough clean up. The car was last driven and licensed in 1986
(see photos). I also found the original
build sheet in the glove box (see photo)
This is a nice dry western US car, with very minimal rust. It has spent most of its life indoors, as
evidenced with the lack of rust around the hood hinge area, floor pans, rear
window area, and with only a few paint bubbles in the lower rear quarters. The trunk floor has some surface rust, but
nothing rusted through (see photos). This is about as close to a “rust free” car as can be found. The frame
rails, floors, cowl area, and windshield are rock solid, with no rust repair
required. The entire car has a heavy undercoating, and the interior floor pans
and frame rails show no rust. See photos. There is some paint peeling on the passenger
rear quarter and around the trunk lid, but nothing serious. This car would be an “easy” restoration, and
could easily save an owner $5k to $10k in metal work costs over a rusty car
that needs floors, quarters, fenders etc. Replace the vinyl top, rebuild the
engine, repaint the car and you would have a very respectable muscle car.

A 1969 Plymouth GTX was the “rich mans” muscle car. With 440
ci engine, automatic transmission, 4.11 Dana 60 rear end, a good color
combination, and a nicely optioned car make it near the top of desirability for
a 1969 Plymouth. It is common to see
these cars sell for $75K or above, with a very nice restoration.
You are welcome to view the car personally, or contact me
directly for more information. I can be
reached at (801) 910-6306. It will
obviously need to be trailered if you pick it up in person. I live near Provo, Utah just off interstate
highway I-15, zip code 84003. Look at
the photos carefully, call and ask any questions, but what you see in the photos
is what you get. The car needs a full
and total restoration, but most everything is there and in overall very nice
condition. I can store the car for a
reasonable amount of time, and will help with pick-up and delivery. The car is
currently in storage in St George, Utah, and I will deliver to Mopars at the
Strip in Las Vegas for free, the weekend of March 18-20, 2016.
We specialize in finding good quality restoration projects, so if you have a specific need, don’t hesitate to call and maybe we can help
you locate that Mopar muscle car project you have dreamed of owning.
