Description:

You are bidding on my 1964 Pontiac Catalina 6 passenger Station Wagon. It has been a California car for it’s entire life except for a very short stay in Idaho. I purchased this wagon in June 2015 from a collector in Idaho who had recently purchased the car from the original owners family in Norther California. This Catalina is very unique because of the many options which are usually found on a Bonneville. It is equipped with factory air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, power windows, tilt wheel, and deluxe wheel covers. When I went to title the car in my name the wagon was still in the California DMV system and on “planned non operation” since 1991! My plans were to make this a “period correct” tow vehicle for my Classic Fiberglass boat. The car had not been driven for many years when I got it. I had big plans for this wagon but my priorities have changed and I have decided to part with this very cool and unique wagon after completing quite a bit of work.
The following is a detailed description of my Catalina Wagon.
Mechanical.
The Engine:
It is powered by its original 389 cu. In. 4BBL V8. To get the car running I dropped the fuel tank to clean it. Serviced the fuel sender and replaced fuel lines. I rebuilt the original Carter AFB carburetor and got it running. Engine sounded good but the water pump was leaking. I then decided to replace the water pump and while I had it apart replace the Timing chain. I also replaced the spark plugs , wires, Distributer cap and rotor, hoses, had the radiator checked and rodded out. I did a quicky detail and paint job, not show quality, but very presentable. Engine now starts, runs and drives great. No lifter noise or smoke. Only issue is some blow-by that seems to get better the more the car is driven. Also it need all the small vacuum lines replaced that actuate the heater and AC valves and vents.
Transmission:
One of the things that really attracted me to this car was that at sometime in its past, they replaced the old slim jim automatic transmission with a later model turbohydramatic 400. This improvement makes the car drive so much better and feel like a newer car.
Brakes:
Still has its original 4 wheel power drum brakes. I have not touched them but they seem to work very well and stops the car as they should
Body:
My wagon is still wearing its original Marimba Red paint. It is 100% rust free. Paint is very thin in places. My original plans were to repaint it, but I have decided I like the original “Patina”. Car is very straight. Has a little bump at rear drivers side tail light and a small crease in rear passenger door (I have trim piece but need new clips)(see pics).
I only have the ignition key. No door key or tailgate window key. Tailgate window can only be lowered and raised from dashboard switch.
Interior:
When I got the wagon the interior was rough. I removed seats and carpet. Floorboards were perfect. I installed a new carpet kit and had the front and rear seat rebuilt and recovered. My upholstery guy duplicated the original pattern and colors very nicely. The car still needs the door panels redone. The dash pad is cracked. Original steering wheel has cracks The headliner is not bad but has a couple loose seams. All weather stripping needs replacement. Car has its original spare wheel and jack.
Wheels and Tires:
This wagon has 4 brand new radial tires on original 14” wheels and deluxe wheel covers
Glass:
Glass is good. No cracks
Electronics:
All lights work, gas gauge works. All door windows work with the exception of the rear passenger side door. Tailgate window only operates from dash switch.
Car has a clean title in my name and is non-opped with the Calif DMV.( Smog Exempt)
In conclusion, here is a very rare and unique Pontiac station wagon. It is still a project but can be used without too much more being done to it. It starts, runs and drives good. However, I have not driven the car more than a few trips around the block. I would not recommend you planning on driving it across the county unless you are very adventurous.

The car is located in Clovis California zip code 93611
