1956 Studebaker Golden Hawk

Studebaker Golden Hawk (1956)
for sale

Price: US $28,900.00

Description:

The marriage of Packard and Studebaker in 1954 resulted in the unique 1956 Golden Hawk (56J). Stuffing an engine designed for the much heavier Packard into the lighter Studebaker produced one of the earliest muscle cars of the 1950s. At 275 HP, the 56J was second only to the Chrysler 300-B in horsepower per pound ratio of any American car in 1956.
It was the only car produced by the

ackard Corporation that featured Studebaker Style and Packard Power. The Packard engine & transmission plant in Utica Michigan was sold to Curtiss-Wright as part of the agreement when Curtis-Wright took over management of

. Curtiss-Wright used that engine plant to manufacture jet aircraft engines. The Detroit Packard operation was closed down following 1956 production and all operations were consolidated in South Bend. The result was the end of the short lived Packard 352 V8.

was forced to use the lower powered Studebaker 289 V8 in the 1957 and 1958 Golden Hawks. To make up for the 65 HP loss, a McCulloch Supercharger was fitted to the Golden Hawk for the last two years of the model run.
This Golden Hawk was restored in the 1980s after sitting in a garage for 15 years. Although it was a complete car, virtually everything needed to be replaced. It has been driven regularly about 25, 000 miles since the restoration was completed. The car had about 96, 000 miles showing when I had the engine rebuilt. The speedometer died at about 116, 000. New speedometer shows about 9, 100.
Over the past 31+ years, whenever the car needed something, it got it. It starts, runs, and stops and does all of it well. I don't believe it needs anything and is driven every weekend, weather permitting. My trips are mostly a minimum of 20 to less than 40 miles, at usually 45-60 MPH. The last time it ran on a longer trip was a 265 mile round trip to our State Meet in Jacksonville FL in 2012 and a 95 mile round trip to the Daytona Speedway Turkey Run in 2013. Though many items were replaced or repaired decades ago, they all look or function as they did originally. The only thing that deteriorated was the silver mylar on the doors which started to discolor. I have a replacement from Southeast Studebaker that will go with the car.
I have all the titles from the previous owners as well as every receipt for every part that I've purchased for the car, and repair I've done, except oil changes. I also have a spreadsheet showing the repair/part, mileage, and cost of everything. Rebuilt Packard 352 V8 engine and automatic transmission. Below are just a few items of note:
Chrome valve covers.Safety brake fluid reservoir. (no need to lift carpet to check the brake fluid)
NOS power steering pump and new hoses.
Pertronix Ignitor II and Flame Thrower coil.New 6 wide wheels for Wide whitewall radial tires, P215-75R/15.NOS seat belts.Tachometer converted to an all electric unit (does not need the sending unit on the distributor).Clock converted to a Quartz movement with a new bezel.Recast (Shrock Brothers) correct size steering wheel.NOS headliner in the correct Light Rose Mist color (Not reproduction).Rear seat speaker.Heavy duty springs.Mechanical/electrical brake light switch (for Dot-5 silicone brake fluid)Make me a reasonable offer and let's discuss it!
