The Toyota Bandeirante is the Brasilian version of the North American Toyota Landcruiser FJ models. They have mostly all similar designs and parts with the main difference of the standard Diesel Mercedes Benz Engine. Brasil was the first country in the world outside Japan where the Toyota Landcruiser model was produced and Brasil has the highest production of Landcruisers in the world with 104, 621 units manufactured. The Toyota Bandeirante's most interesting history began, when for the rest of the world, the Landcruiser 40 series seemed to pass on into oblivion in 1984 when Toyota quit producing them in Japan. However, Brazil continued production of these 40 series long past 1984. It was not until 2001 that the last Bandeirante, and therefore the last true 40 series rolled off the assembly in Brasil and off into history.
