You’re considering my 1964 TR4. The
Triumph is an early “white dash” car, a European-specification import with
original factory overdrive. There are a
few minor differences associated with this spec; including the ignition positioned
under the steering column and the O/D and turn signal stalks are reversed. It has been converted to negative earth for
ease of operation and to install a modern retro-appearance radio which is in
place but yet not wired to operate. Careful inspection reveals that the TR4 has
its original paint with no evidence of prior accidents. There are many small dents, scratches and
chips but no more than expected. The finish presents a pleasingly mellow shine befitting
a vehicle that has been well used and cared for. Most TR4s are either restored (often
poorly) or very tatty and in that sense, this car is a rare
exception. The only rust present is the
lower section of the front fenders ahead of the rockers. I’ve taken close ups of this area including
from the underside and it is apparent that the damage has is not
extensive.
EBay picture count is limited. Go to:
here
for additional pictures including comprehensive underside shots and
several more photos of detail. I've taken photos in a variety of light conditions to provide as accurate a portrayal of the paint finish as I can. I want
prospective buyers to see exactly what they’re getting.
The engine has remained in
stellar working order. It is smooth, never runs hot, has good power and uses little oil. It does drip some oil at rest but nothing out
of the ordinary. The gearbox is
excellent and all mechanical and electrical systems including the overdrive function
exactly as they should. The leather seat
covers and carpeting is newer and very nice. The original door panels look great but the
dash pad is cracked and should be replaced as should the door seal rubber. The original gauges are all bright and clear
and all instrumentation and electricals function as they should. The tonneau
cover is in beautiful condition. The top
is very sound but the plastic has yellowed. (It will likely improve with some
elbow grease but will never be crystal clear.) The genuine Michelin period-correct tires are nearly new. The
overall condition of the TR4 supports the mileage as genuine although I do not
have the documentation to confirm a definitive claim to that affect.
Overall this is an honest car with beautiful
patina. It is mostly original and very
well maintained with the aim to be driven and enjoyed. I have done
lots of fettling since I’ve owned the car to bring
it up to reliable driver condition and I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere. I highly encourage an in-person inspection before the end of the auction. I know of no reason why the car could not be driven anywhere but I
advise trailering or transporting beyond a few hundred miles out of respect for
the car and conditions that prevail en route on today’s interstate system. I’ll gladly answer questions upon
request through EBay or by phone. Call
