Description:

The Soul of Le Mans
A classic sports car that's a thrill to drive!
This 1969 Triumph GT6+ has been driven 498 miles since it was restored in 1997. I am selling this Triumph for an associate. I took the photos, inspected the car and drove her out on the highway and she's a blast to drive!
The car received a full frame-off restoration in 1997 with several photo’s taken along the way that will go with that car. The engine, rear end, and many other systems were rebuilt. Many part were refurbished or replaced with OEM parts. Recently she received a new battery and brand new tires. Everything works as it should including the original British Leyland radio. This car won
1ST IN CLASS
at an “All British Car Show” in Kansas City. She comes the spare tire & shop/service manuals.
History:
In early 1963 Giovanni Michelotti (one of the most prolific designers of sports cars in the 20th century. ) was commissioned by Standard-Triumph to design a GT version of their recently introduced Spitfire 4 (also designed by Michelotti). The car was further developed and refined and eventually launched as the Triumph GT6 (dropping the Spitfire prefix) to emphasize its GT styling and its 6-cylinder engine.
In the 1969 model year, Triumph introduced the GT6 Mk II, known in the States as the GT6+. GT stands for Grand Touring and “6” because she’s got the 2-litre (1998 cc) 6-cylinder engine. The rear suspension was significantly re-engineered using reversed lower wishbones and rotoflex driveshaft couplings, taming the handling and turning the Triumph into an MGB beater.
There were other changes for the GT6+; the front bumper was raised (in common with the Spitfire Mk.3) to conform to new crash regulations, necessitating a revised front end, and side vents were added to the front wings and rear pillars. Under the bonnet, the engine was uprated to develop 104 bhp (78 kW) with a new cylinder head, camshaft, and manifolds. Performance improved to 107 mph (172 km/h), but perhaps more noteworthy the 0–60 mph (97 km/h) time dropped to 10 seconds. The fuel economy was also improved to 25 mpg average. The interior was updated with a new dashboard and better ventilation, a two-speed heater fan and a black headlining.
Summary
Why you'll love it:
● Glorious noise from the 2.0-litre straight-six.
● Low-slung sportscar feel.
● Curvaceous styling still looks good.
This is a very cool sports car that's still every bit as fun today as it was in when it drove off the showroom floor. It's drives great and will evoke a wide grin when you get behind the wheel. If you're looking for a cool classic that's fun, unique and ready to hit the road, this is it! Feel free to call me (515) 864-1275 with any questions and thanks for looking! I reserve the right to end this auction early.
