You are
bidding on my MUCH LOVED 1973 Triumph TR6 (VIN # CF11185U) Pimento Red with Tan
interior. The car has just had very major and extensive engine work done (see
Mechanical below). I purchased the
car from the original owner over 38 years ago. The car has never been restored
but always kept in good running condition. The car has lived in the San Diego, California area all of its life (Purchased from Graham Automotive, San Diego
with the original “Passport To Service”) and garaged for 95% for its life. The
odometer reads 64020 miles but I ignored a broken speedometer and think the true
mileage is around 94, 000 miles. Up to June 2014, the car was used for bi-weekly
commuting. I have over 25 years of receipts. All work (except oil changes) for
the past 12 years have been done by the famous Ken Russell of British
Automotive. Clean title in hand. I can send more and larger pictures, or photograph
any area of the car you would like to see. Please contact me.
Body:
The body has the original paint, so of course it is not as shiny as it
was when I bought it, but still not too bad either. The car was bumped in the
back while parked before I bought it so that the lower rear valence has a
little damage. The front of the bonnet has a very slight crease. There are two
holes on the right wing where the mirror used to be. There are four (4) holes
in the rear trunk lid for a luggage rack (which I have). As a southern
California car, there is really no rust damage anywhere. There is very slight rust
on the floorboards, but very normal on any convertible car. The car also has a
roll bar for safety (installed professionally). Overall the body is very sound.
Interior:
The seats were recovered in the early 80’s and the driver’s seat lower
diaphragm was replaced in 2007. The carpets underneath the seats need to be replaced but are covered by rubber mats in
footwells. The dash top is cracked in 2 places and 1 each on the switch plinth
and the right crash pad. The door cap and pull on both doors has just been
replaced. The hinges on the glove box could use some attention. There is a
Formula France (I think) steering wheel on the car but I have the original.
There is a Blaupunkt Daytona stereo and while the radio works fine, the
cassette does not function correctly. The convertible top is old but in good
condition and the rear window is clear.
Mechanical:
The engine has just had some very major work done. In fact, almost a full
engine overhaul was performed (again by Ken Russell of British Automotive). I
have the details and can supply you with the invoices which list all the work
just completed. In part, it received a full valve job, new pistons and rings, a
new camshaft and lifters, oil pump, timing chain, and rod bearings-plus more.
The valve job was very complete with new valves and valve guides (bronze valve
guides), valve springs. Over $6000 just invested. The car has a Crane
electronic ignition, new fuel pump, spin on oil filter, and a carburetor
shield. The gearbox was overhauled about 28, 000 miles ago. There is a drip at
the differential but very small. The radiator was recored, along with a new
water pump, hoses and fan belt about 5, 000 miles ago. The tires are Doral
205/65R15 (10, 000 miles) the speedometer has been recalibrated but the odometer
is 7% high. All lights and gauges are working. The only thing that I know that
does not work is the window washer. New battery. THIS CAR IS VERY MECHANICALLY
SOUND.
