Own a piece of automotive history w/out breaking the bank! This 1972 VW Super Beetle is in fantastic shape mechanically and cosmetically, completely rust-free and repainted in the original L51B Enzian Blue that it left the factory with. I restored it to be a great daily driver, not a trailer or show queen. Although I did win 1st place at a show last summer outside of Lancaster, PA for most original in its category...:-). And I recently drove it round-trip from Northern VA to Miami, FL and back, *zero* mechanical problems, averaged 32-35 MPG on highway stretches. I would drive it cross-country w/out a 2nd thought.
Here are some of the technical details:
- Just over 122k miles on the car, 34k estimated on the engine- Stock or stock-style-build all around, including original factory color; only exceptions are lowering struts in the front (Topline Sport springs), a CB Maxi 2 Oil Pump-Filter combo, and cloth inserts in the seats for improved comfort.- All original VW factory steel, original rust-free solid floor pans - working heat/defrost both sides - new MC (May '15)/brake cylinders/shoes, front wheel bearings, rear brakes and hardware too (12 months) - all suspensionbushings front and back replaced over the last year, including spring plates/trailing arm, all front too including idler arm, ball joints, a couple of tie-rods, center tie-rod, adjusted steering box: no shimmy - 1600dp with ALL of the factory tin and working t-stat, stock 34/3 PICT setup w/clear heat risers, runs great - The pictured Bocar carb doesn't go w/the Bug; instead, a rebuilt/rebushed German Solex 34/3 will be installed.- only engine mod is a CB Performance Maxi 2 oil pump/filter combo- complete and functional gas evaporation system front to back, rebuilt charcoal canister - all new door and window seals, rubber and scrapers sourced from Wolfsburg West and WestCoast Metric, including both windshields; new seals on rear pop-outs; - new headliner and new TMI seat covers and foam/horse hair front and back; but the headliner is not perfect, I messed up around the dome light and had to patch it. - Includes old but good spare- Original washer bottle and hoses are in place but not connected- Original dash, has cracks- VW rear fender mud guards are
not
included - Lowered in front, gas struts and sport springs bought from Top Line; - heavy duty rear sway bar also from TopLine, car corners like a go-cart - New front NAKANG tires, using stock-compatible 165/80/15 all around- chrome rims - front 4.5x15, rear 5.5x15, stock chrome hub caps in great shape - original German chrome bumpers, new impact strip on front- All electric works, including the hated seat belt buzzer, and the wipers and fresh air box fan (which I rebuilt) - upgraded headlights to H4 bulbs, nice and bright- alternator is a year old, 90 amps- hard start relay installed- Oil pressure, temp and voltage gauges mounted under the ash tray, tach just to the left and below the steering wheel- Pyle AM/FM/BT/SDCard/USB Radio installed in glove compartment- Wolfsburg West shift lock surrounded by center console- painted the factory L51B Enzian Blue, not perfect, I did it myself, and I still need to color sand it and polish it. But it still looks really nice!- includes Wolsfburg certificate of authenticity- clean VA title, not a salvage
