I have owned this Willys Wagon for 20 years. I kept it maintained very well. The original Super Hurricane Flathead six has been completely rebuilt, balanced, shaved and decked. After the rebuild Compression was 140 psi. I drove it for about 5, 000 miles after that. It is very easy and nice to drive. My wife used to drive it to work at Bridger Bowl when she was a ski instructor. She never had any problem starting it in the winter in Bozeman which gets VERY cold! It hasn't been driven much in the last 10-15 years due to having kids and other responsibilities. Fires right up on the first crank. Does run a little rough when cold so probably needs a tune up after sitting so much. Rebuilt carburetor, generator, starter, fuel pump. Rebuilt transmission, transfer case. New brakes, plug wires, battery, etc. The lights work, the brakes work. The windshield wipers work. This has the heavy duty fuel pump with vacuum pump for the wipers. The original gauges work. One tail light is out, the other works. New floor pan on drivers side. Original Oak strips have been refinished and look spectacular! Military Spec clear coat to preserve and protect the patina. All new glass and seals. The steering is very good with new tie rod ends and rebuilt drag link. It does not wander all over the road.
Here is a video of the engine starting and running: here
This is a really nice Willys with all the original chrome and bumpers. The heater absolutely cranks and will rock your socks off. Wing vents and cowl vents, and sliding rear windows work excellent. The Dana 44 rear axle has the highest optional gears available (4.27) and with the 265/75r16 tires will cruise at 60-65 mph. If you want to go faster it is recommended to get the bolt-on Warn overdrive. The original hubs work great. The 4wd works great. This vehicle is AMAZING in the snow. The suspension flexes very nice and it just somehow always seems to have great balance and traction. I never abused it and mostly drove it on Forest Service roads to go back-country skiing in my younger days. It has plowed through snow up to the front fenders! I have had several Scouts and Power Wagons and none compared to the Willys. It truly is a brilliantly balanced design.
Originally a U.S. Forest Service Forest Ranger vehicle on the Darby Ranger District in Montana. While all the regular guys had to bounce around in trucks, the head forest ranger got to cruise in style in this 1959 Willys wagon. It has a faded flag on each side, and a faded PREVENT FOREST FIRES Smokey the Bear on the back. Please see pictures!
Truck is sold as is where is in Stevensville, Montana, USA 59870. Current and clear title in my name.

“Rebuilt engine, transmission, transfer case, brakes, starter, generator, fuel pump, new battery, etc... Starts instantly on first crank. Could probably use a tune up as it hasn't been driven much in the last few years since I broke my back. Needs to get out and drive! Original Willys Wagon is 56 years old. As is normal for a vehicle of this age it has scratches, small dents and dings, a few bullet holes, and some very isolated rust spots. Overall it is a VERY nice solid example of a Willys wagon.” |
