1971 MG MGB

MG MGB (1971)
for sale

Price: US $2,950.00

Description:

Solid original car with no rust and no body work. Same owner since 1992 (23 years). We had the car restored in 1992 starting with sandblasting the original yellow paint off down to bare metal. There was no need for any body work before painting the car in the teal blue color as shown except for a small foot long crease in the right rear quarter panel. There is also a slight bend in the right front fender, you have to look hard to see it. Test this car with a magnet, you won't find any filler or body work anywhere. (Hood is aluminum). The floor pans are solid with some surface rust.
When the car was purchased in Hinsdale IL in 1992 it had an Illinois plate on the rear and an Arizona plate on the front. During the restoration a rebuilt engine was installed and a complete interior package from Victoria British was installed. The foam in the seats was replaced and the driver's seat was raised about one inch for better visibility. The floor carpet now needs replacing after 23 years of use. The rest of the interior looks great, seats have always been covered so look like new today. The sandblasting and repaint covered the entire car including the engine compartment. The only area that was not painted was behind the dash panel.
This car has always been garaged for the last 23 years, in fact, the soft top has not been on the car since '92 because it never goes out unless it was a sunny day. The top is included and is in great shape with no tears or rips and clear (for a 23+ year old top) rear windows. There are also a tonneau cover and a smaller cover that would cover the top when it is stowed behind the front seats.
We preferred the look of the 1967 grill and there are a few other minor changes that could be easily reversed if you wished. The body chrome is over 90% original. The doors close well and the windows wind up easily. There are no cracks in the door skins near the vent windows as is commonly found on older B's. The glass is good all around. We have the original keys and the trunk lock works great. Original rostyle wheel rims have been replaced with wire wheel kits and rims with the old style knock-off hubs. The wire wheels are older and could use updating. Car has the original tool bag, side crank jack and brass hub hammer. The transmission shifts up and down smoothly. There are new tires on the front but the rears need replacement.
The engine starts quickly and runs strong. No smoke or excess noise. Oil pressure runs at 60+ lbs. All gauges work except the odometer which stopped several years ago at 74, 725 miles. Head lights, high and low, work as do the parking lights but turn signals only work occasionally. Tail, brake and license plate lights also work. During restoration several electrical items were not completed. The windshield wipers and washers, cig lighter and heater fan were not connected. There is no radio. The dash came with a carpet like cover on it and we assume there were cracks in the original dash.
The car does leak oil (it is an MG) from the side panel behind the original HS4 twin carbs. The carbs were rebuilt last year with new gross jets added. The radiator was removed, cleaned and tested, new water pump and hoses replaced also last year.
The sale of the great car also includes another complete '71 B wiring harness and dash, a chrome luggage rack and several boxes of parts from another '71 B parts car.
This car is also advertised locally and is subject to prior sale.
